Nutritious, safe snacks to boost your pup’s skin, coat, gut and overall health
Does your dog beg nonstop while you eat? Like many pups, mine stares up at me with wide eyes, wags its tail wildly, and sits perfectly still, hoping for a bite of whatever I’m enjoying. It even licks its lips and swallows hard when it smells delicious food!
But don’t cave in to those cute begging faces too easily. Not all human food is safe or healthy for dogs. Today we’re breaking down the top nutrient-packed superfoods you can safely share with your dog. These foods support their heart, joints, skin, fur, eyes, organs, bones and muscles to keep them in peak condition.
1. Bone Broth
Bone broth works like a healing tonic for dogs and can be served as a daily drink. It improves digestive function — many skin allergies, inflammation and weak immune issues stem from sensitive guts, and broth eases these troubles. It also supports liver detoxification and relieves joint pain.
You can use beef, lamb or pork bones to simmer the broth. Let your dog eat the tender meat from the bones along with the soup. Never give hard cooked bones: they crack into sharp shards that can damage teeth or puncture your dog’s digestive tract if swallowed.
2. Fresh Goat Milk
Goat milk is far better for dogs than cow milk. It contains vitamins A, D, K, healthy fats and amino acids, plus natural probiotics and digestive enzymes that repair gut lining. Rich minerals and electrolytes strengthen immunity and reduce allergic reactions.
It is low-allergen, naturally weakly alkaline and easy for canine stomachs to absorb. Start with tiny portions and gradually increase the amount to let your dog adjust.
3. Carrots
Loaded with vitamin A, carrots nourish your dog’s skin and create soft, glossy fur. Chewing raw carrots scrapes plaque off teeth for natural dental care. The high fiber content firms up loose, runny stool. Carrots also improve eyesight and are low-calorie for overweight dogs.
4. Apples
Remove all apple seeds before feeding — only the flesh and peel are safe. Apples supply vitamins A, C and fiber to protect body cells. Malic acid boosts appetite and neutralizes bad breath and body odor. Pectin stimulates intestinal movement to ease constipation, and they help regulate blood pressure. Swap fatty treats for apple slices to avoid unwanted weight gain.
5. Cooked Egg Yolks
Egg yolks contain healthy cholesterol and amino acids that build muscle, repair tissue and boost coat quality. Always serve fully cooked eggs — raw eggs carry harmful bacteria that upset your dog’s stomach.
6. Salmon
High in protein and low in fat, salmon delivers premium nutrition without weight gain. Its essential fatty acids calm itchy, inflamed skin and create ultra-shiny, smooth fur. It eases arthritis discomfort, supports heart and brain health, lowers bad cholesterol and prevents cardiovascular disease.
Salmon is gentle on weak digestive systems, making it the perfect high-protein meat for senior dogs with slower digestion.
